HSBMB

Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HSBMB) was founded in 1971 as the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Biophysics (HSBB) and was the initiative of 23 scientists working in the field of biochemistry or biophysics. Forerunner of the HSBB was the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry established in Thessaloniki in 1959 and subsequently incorporated in the HSBB in 1983. In 1999 the HSBB was renamed in the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HSBMB) to include the growing field of molecular biology.

The HSBMB currently consists of more than 500 regular and associate members who work in Greece and abroad. Requirement for membership was and remains the possession of a Ph.D. in biochemistry or molecular biology or at least three publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals in the same fields.

Among all other goals of the society is the organization of conferences with the participation of HSBMB members and other researchers after evaluation of the submitted to be presented studies.

HSBMB Membership

The Society offers three kinds of membership: Full, Emeritus and Assistant. Full members should be scientists actively involved in research in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics or Clinical Biochemistry and should normally hold a PhD degree or have at least three original publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Emeritus membership is restricted to Greek or foreign scientists with significant international recognition. Hellenic Matrix Biology Section of HSBMB

The Hellenic Matrix Biology Section (HMBS) (former the Hellenic Research Club for Connective Tissue and Matrix Biology – HRCTMB) was founded in 1997 and operates inside the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (HSBMB). The scope of Matrix Biology Section is to promote research in the fields of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicine, Biotechnology and Clinical Chemistry, related to Connective Tissue and Extracellular Matrix, and also to create the proper environment for the communication between researchers in this field, in order for them to be informed, to exchange opinions and to create conceptual scientific networks. The MBS is a member of the Matrix Biology Europe (MBE) and also a member of the International Society for Matrix Biology (ISMB).
