Welcome to the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HSBMB) was founded in 1971 as the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Biophysics (HSBB) and was the initiative of 23 scientists working in the field of biochemistry or biophysics. The HSBMB currently consists of more than 500 regular and associate members who work in Greece and abroad. HSBMB is the representation of the Greek Biochemists and Molecular Biologists in international organizations such as the IUBMB (International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and FEBS (Federation of European Biochemical Societies)

Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HSBMB) was founded in 1971 as the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Biophysics (HSBB) and was the initiative of 23 scientists working in the field of biochemistry or biophysics. Forerunner of the HSBB was the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry established in Thessaloniki in 1959 and subsequently incorporated in the HSBB in 1983. In 1999 the HSBB was renamed in the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HSBMB) to include the growing field of molecular biology.

Hellenic Matrix Biology

The Hellenic Matrix Biology Section (HMBS) promotes research and collaboration in the fields of extracellular matrix and connective tissue biology. Operating within HSBMB since 1997, it connects scientists from Greece and abroad to advance knowledge, innovation, and scientific networking.

Our Scope

HMBS supports research in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicine, Biotechnology, and Clinical Chemistry related to the extracellular matrix. It creates a dynamic environment for scientific communication, collaboration, and the development of conceptual research networks.

Research Focus

The Section promotes high-level research on the composition, structure, and function of extracellular matrix macromolecules. It encourages studies on their role in normal cellular processes and in the development of human diseases.

Global Partnerships

HMBS is an active member of Matrix Biology Europe (MBE) and the International Society for Matrix Biology (ISMB). Through conferences and advanced lecture courses, it fosters international cooperation and scientific excellence.
